Design the Smile You Want with Porcelain Veneers

Dr. Michael McCartney provides porcelain veneers for patients at our Adel, GA, office, guiding them through the treatment and welcoming their input into the design of their smile. Veneers consist of very thin porcelain shells that attach securely onto the front surfaces of your teeth. This cosmetic procedure can transform your smile by concealing a number of cosmetic imperfections, including deep stains, chips and cracks, gaps, and more. Dr. McCartney uses strong, beautiful, and modern materials for durable results that can last for many years to come. His extensive experience and artistic eye will ensure you receive the most beautiful and natural-looking veneers possible.

Planning Your Treatment

Your initial consultation with Dr. McCartney will determine your candidacy and begin the development of your treatment plan. Dr. McCartney will discuss your cosmetic goals with you as well as evaluate your oral health. As with any other cosmetic procedure, it is important that you are in good oral health before moving forward with porcelain veneers. Together, you will design your smile. Dr. McCartney can create a wax-up model if you wish so you can get a better idea of how your smile will look after your treatment is complete.

Creating and Placing Your Custom Porcelain Veneers

In addition to your initial consultation, porcelain veneers require two visits to complete. Though the porcelain is extremely thin, a small amount of material still needs to be removed in order to make room for them. This involves removing only a minuscule amount of enamel (less than one millimeter) from the the surfaces of the teeth that will receive veneers. Besides creating enough space for the veneers, it will avoid a bulky look and feel. Once your teeth are prepped, Dr. McCartney will take impressions of your teeth. We will send these impressions to a nearby dental laboratory.

With proper at-home oral hygiene and regular check-ups and professional cleanings, you can enjoy your veneers for years to come.

At the lab, skilled technicians will craft your custom veneers out of a block of porcelain selected to match the shade of your surrounding teeth. This process can take up to two weeks. Dr. McCartney may provide you with temporary veneers to wear during this time to avoid sensitivity.

When your veneers are complete, you will return to our office for placement. Dr. McCartney will first ensure the size, shape, and shade of the veneers are correct. Then he will apply an acidic solution to lightly etch the surfaces of your teeth. Creating a rough surface will result in a strong bond between the teeth and the veneers. He will apply dental cement to the back side of the veneers, and then firmly place them onto your teeth. Using a curing light, he will harden the cement. You will leave our office with a brand-new smile.

In some cases, Dr. McCartney may be able to place low-prep or no-prep veneers (Lumineers®), which usually require only one visit.

Maintaining Your Porcelain Veneers

With proper care, your veneers can last for many years. You should continue brushing and flossing every day with a non-abrasive toothpaste. Porcelain is vulnerable to chipping—just as natural teeth are—so it is important to avoid chewing on hard objects such as ice cubes, fingernails, pen caps, etc. If you suffer from bruxism, or teeth grinding, Dr. McCartney will likely suggest a night guard to protect your veneers (and your teeth) from damage. Be sure to maintain good at-home oral hygiene and regular check-ups and professional cleanings to help make your smile last.

The Transformative Effect of Veneers

Porcelain veneers will closely match the shade of your surrounding teeth, making them completely inconspicuous. Placed on one or any number of teeth, they can subtly upgrade your smile or give you a whole new look. A very versatile treatment, veneers can address a wide range of cosmetic imperfections to give you a whiter, straighter, more beautiful smile. They are crafted from a strong and durable material so you can enjoy lasting results. With porcelain veneers, you can actually have the smile you have always wanted.
